tracker
The solar tracker on the roof of the FTIR-container in Paramaribo while solar absorption measurements are performed.
The measurements in Paramaribo (Suriname) have been started in 2004 and are performed on a campaign basis. Despite its importance for global climate not many measurements have been performed in the tropics and up to now the FTIR-observations at Paramaribo are the only ones of this kind in the inner-tropics. Important research topics in the tropics are the exchange between the hemispheres, the entry of air masses from the troposphere into the stratosphere, which exclisively takes place in the tropics and the impact of emissions, in particular from biomass burning, on the global climate.
