| The PSC detection method used is based on a color-index approach employing the ratio of the limb - radiance profiles at wavelengths of 1090 nm and 750 nm. A PSC is detected if the vertical color-index gradient exceeds a threshold determined numerically with radiative transfer calculations. As the measured color-indices are also affected by stratospheric background aerosols, the PSC detection technique requires a priori knowledge of the stratospheric background aerosol loading. More information on the PSC detection technique and its performance can be found in von Savigny et al. [2005]. Spurious PSC detections due to, e.g., measurement errors, radiation hits, stratospheric background aerosol and possibly high altitude cirrus clouds may occur. Note that no PSC are delivered for November and December. From January until end of May an Arctic projection and from June until end of October an Antarctic projection is displayed automatically. The provision of PV and temperature model data by the UK Met. Office is gratefully acknowledged. |
All results have been prepared by IUP, University of Bremen and are preliminary!
