Title: SCIAMACHY in orbit for 75 days

On 1st of March 2002 ENVISAT with SCIAMACHY on-board was launched succesfully. ENVISAT flies in a sun synchronous polar orbit and SCIAMACHY is a passive remote sensing instrument, which measures solar back scattered and reflected light from the atmosphere in nadir and limb viewing geometries during the majority of an orbit. In addition solar and lunar occultation measurements will be performed. Measurements are made simultaneously in eight spectral channels covering the spectral region between 220 and 2400 nm.
After a few weeks of outgassing SCIAMACHY was switched on successfully. Then a complex procedure starts to check out the instrument in orbit and tune it to the optimum performance. First solar and atmospheric spectra were already taken at the begin of April.
The talk will give an overview of the status of SCIAMACHY in orbit and will give an outlook on the availability of first data products.
