Title: Effect of cirrus clouds in microwave remote sensing

The up-welling atmospheric radiation in the mm-wave spectral range is influenced by the presence of cirrus clouds, which have distinct radiative transfer properties compared to other cloud types. ARTS, a clear sky radiative transfer model developed in the Institute of Environmental Physics, Bremen, is now being extended to include the effect of cirrus clouds. The model is designed to solve the vector radiative transfer equation in a 3-D atmosphere. The presentation will be based on simulating the effect of cirrus cloud on AMSU radiances.
