Title:
Sea ice information is of importance for many applications in
climatology, meteorology, oceanography, biology, and perhaps even
troposheric chemistry, as well as for ship navigation in polar regions.
The imaging microwave radiometer SSM/I is the "workhorse" for satellite
sea ice remote sensing on a large scale. Synthetic aperture radar
systems such as the ERS-SAR provide very high resolution images on a
regional scale. A brief introduction in the principles of sea ice remote
sensing with SSM/I and ERS-SAR will be given and some applications will
be presented.
