NOx Production by Lightning

Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) play an important role in the tropospheric ozone chemistry. Of all identified NOx sources the least quantified is the production of NOx by lightning.
The talk will give an overview of the most important processes that lead to thunderstorm electrification, lightning and production of NOx. The work performed at the DLR in the field of NOx production by lightning will be summarized, and future activities will be presented.
