Bromine compounds play an important and active role in the depletion of stratospheric ozone. Despite its important role in destroying stratospheric ozone, the measurements of bromine species have been sparse. And hence the chemical mechanisms are also not thoroughly validated.

SCIAMACHY is measuring bromine monoxide (BrO) profiles globally for the first time. This gives us a good opportunity to understand and validate the bromine chemistry. Here we present the first global measurements of BrO from SCIAMACHY and its comparison with 1 D photochemical stacked box model.
