Retrieval of Mesospheric Constituents from SCIAMACHY Limb Data - Retrieval
Theory and First Results of Mg/Mg+

We present first results of trace gas retrievals from mesospheric emission signals observed in the SCIAMACHY limb measurements. Mesospheric emission signals are observed throughout the UV and visible spectral range. We focus on measurements in the UV-C region (214 - 330 nm).

A forward model covering the altitude range between 50 and 100 km and a spectral range of 230 - 310 nm has been developed and validated with the IUP model SCIARAYS. The retrieval is based on Optimal Estimation and delivers results for air density, ozone density and density of metal species Mg/Mg+.

We present first results of a joint retrieval of Mg/Mg+ based on SCIAMACHY data of 2004.
