Remote sensing of NO2
Correction of stratospheric NO2
Type the correct answer into each gap. You may need to use a calculator for some answers.
About this exercise type...

Fig e1: SCIAMACHY NO2 slant column over the Pacific

On a summer day, SCIAMACHY measures 2·1016 molec/cm2 NO2 slant column over Bremen, 53°N.

Using the latitudinal distribution of the stratospheric NO2 slant column measured on the same day over the clean Pacific (see Fig. 1), and assuming a tropospheric airmass factor of 0.8 estimate the vertical tropospheric NO2 column for that day.

(_ molec/cm2 − _ molec/cm2) / _ = _ molec/cm2

Entering mathematical expressions
How to enter mathematical expressions in exercise gaps
General Spaces inside and outside expressions and the case of characters will usually be ignored.
Symbols Use * for multiplication and / for division.
Use ° or deg for degrees.
Use conventional function abbreviations, e.g. cos, rad etc.
Decimals E.g. 3.15, 0.02. Use only . for a decimal point. The number of decimal places to be entered will normally be stated in the exercise, if not enter the minimum reasonable number of decimal places.
Powers Enter e.g. 3-2 in the form 3^-2.
Enter 3·10-2 as 3E-2 or 3*10^-2.
