What is the remote sensing of NO2 from space?

This module describes the techniques used to retrieve concentrations of NO2 in the atmosphere using satellite-borne instruments. It focuses on the work done with the GOME instrument on the ERS-2 satellite and the more recent SCIAMACHY instrument on the ENVISAT satellite, both of which are in similar orbits about 800 km above the Earth.

This module describes the important role that NO2 plays in the chemical processes that are responsible for atmospheric pollution and the need to measure its concentration at frequent intervals with a high local resolution and a global scope.
