Here is a quick overview of the principal exercise types and their main
characteristics. Each of these principal types has a large number of variants
and 'flavours'.

Gap option exercises
The exercise contains a number of gaps. In the initial (not done) state the
gaps usually display placeholders. Each gap has a number of options. Click on
the gap to cycle through the options to find the correct one.

Category marker exercises
The exercise contains a number of gaps and a 'legend', a table of colors with
their corresponding meanings. In the initial (not done) state the gaps are
colored in a neutral placeholder colour. Assign the correct colour to the gaps.

Multiple choice exercises
The exercise presents one or more questions ofr statements together with
associated options. Choose the correct option(s). Your choice may be restricted
to a single option or allowed to be of any number of options.

Gapfill exercises
The exercise contains a number of gaps and a table of items that can be put in
the gaps. In the initial (not done) state the gaps usually contain
placeholders. Put the items in the correct gaps. Items and gaps can be in the
ratio 1:1 or 1:many.

Type-in exercises
The exercise contains a number of gaps. In the initial (not done) state the
gaps display placeholders. The learner has to type in an appropriate response.

Annotated text
This exercise type is not evaluated. It is designed to help learners read
'information-rich' texts effectively. The exercise contains a number of gaps.
