SCIAMACHY (SCanning Imaging Absorption spectroMeter for Atmospheric CHartographY) is a new passive remote sounding instrument, and part of the payload of the ESA satellite ENVISAT, which was launched March, 1st 2002.

The primary scientific objective of SCIAMACHY is the study of the physical and chemical processes, which determine the behaviour of the stratosphere and troposphere. The need for an adequate validation of SCIAMACHY data products is a prerequisite for the successful completion of the SCIAMACHY mission.

The general entry point for the validation of SCIAMACHY is the SCIAMACHY Validation and Interpretation Group (SCIAVALIG). This website gives an overview of the German contribution to the validation of SCIAMACHY data products. A detailed description of all projects can be found in the handbook: German Contribution to the SCIAMACHY Validation
