BreCiT 2025-2027

The project BreCiT investigates the transport and transformation of city plumes in Bremen.

Bremen has a balanced mixture of emissions of anthropogenic and biogenic origin originated in urban, industrial and semirural areas surrounded by countryside and farming sites. The study focuses on changes in the urban atmosphere in relation with the expected steady decrease of emissions of anthropogenic origin in Bremen. In particular, the effect of ammonia emissions from livestock farming and fertilisers on the urban air quality by its contribution to the formation of hazardous PM2.5 will be evaluated.

Intensive observational periods of relevant in-situ trace gases, aerosol and meteorological variables at two ground-based measurement sites are planned for the 2026 and 2027 summer periods.
