General Information

Research in stratospheric ozone chemistry and in particular anthropogenic ozone depletion is one of the major research areas of the ASUR Group. Activities span the range from developing novel airborne sensors, conducting campaigns, retrieving of geophysical parameters and physical/chemical interpretation of results. The technique allows to obtain vertically resolved profiles with good horizontal resolution of many stratospheric trace gases of importance for the ozone chemistry. Currently instrument and analysis method are operationally available for the molecules ozone, HCl, ClO, HNO3, and N2O. Within the present frequency range between 604.3 and 662.3 GHz spectral signatures of many more trace gases are accessible. The sensors have been flown successfully since 1992 on research aircraft like the German "Falcon" and the NASA DC-8.
