First results of ASUR measurements during both the EUPLEX campaign and the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign are presented on the EGS-AGU-EUG joint assembly in Nice, France.

20 March 2003

The SCIAMACHY validation payload has been taken out of the FALCON research aircraft, and the ASUR instrument is shipped back to Bremen. The SCIAMACHY Validation campaign is over. Numerous measurements of several atmospheric trace gases were performed between 5° South and 80° North. Now a big data analysis campaign is needed!

19 March 2003

A final validation flight from Oberpfaffenhofen is performed with the SCIAMACHY validation payload on board the FALCON aircraft.

17 March 2003

The FALCON arrives again in Oberpfaffenhofen after having performed several underflights of the ENVISAT instruments SCIAMACHY and MIPAS between Scandinavia, Spitsbergen, and Greenland.

10 March 2003

The FALCON leaves Oberpfaffenhofen and arrives safely in Kiruna, Sweden, the first stop on the northern route of the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign. All instruments work well.

3 March 2003

The FALCON and its crew arrive safely at Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany. The departure for the North route of the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign is now scheduled for 10 March 2003.

The FALCON continues its measurement flights over Western Africa.

The FALCON leaves the Seychelles again and heads for Nairobi, Kenya.

The FALCON arrives on the Seychelles where the operators of ASUR and AMAXDOAS are exchanged.

19 February 2003

The FALCON heads for Tozeur, Tunesia, the first stop on the way to the Seychelles for the South route of the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign.

12 February 2003

After a successful campaign the FALCON with the ASUR instrument on board returns from Kiruna to Oberpfaffenhofen and is prepared for the second deployment of the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign.

14 January 2003

The FALCON with the ASUR instrument on board heads for Kiruna, northern Sweden, the campaign base for the EUPLEX campaign.

9 January 2003

The ASUR instrument has been integrated into the DLR research aircraft FALCON again and is prepared for the upcoming campaigns.

The ASUR instrument returns from NASA Dryden Flight Research Center and is now being prepared for the upcoming EUPLEX campaign in January/February 2003.

29 November 2002

A co-operation between ASUR and the Arctic Lidar Observatory for Middle Atmosphere Research (ALOMAR), Norway, is established for the EUPLEX campaign.

20 November 2002

The NASA DC-8 returns to Edwards Air Force Base, successfully completing the Leonid MAC mission. ASUR took measurements on all flight legs, focusing on the molecules HCN, NO, and ozone.

15 November 2002

After completing a successful test flight yesterday the NASA DC-8 with the ASUR instrument on board heads for Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska, to fly the Leonid MAC mission. From there the flight route leads to Torrejon (Spain, 17 Nov.), back to Offutt AFB (NE, 19 Nov.) in the night of the Leonid meteor shower, and eventually back to Edwards AFB (CA, 20 Nov.). Watch out for the Leonids in Europe in the night from 18 to 19 November! The meteor storm is predicted to peak over western Europe around 5 o'clock Central European Time!

12 November 2002

The ASUR instrument has been integrated successfully in the NASA DC-8 research aircraft and is ready for flight.

21 October 2002

The ASUR instrument is shipped by to NASA Dryden Flight Research Center on Edwards AFB, California, to be prepared for the upcoming Leonid Multi-instrument Aircraft Campaign in November 2002.

28 September 2002

The FALCON arrives at Oberpfaffenhofen, completing the first part of the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign. All instruments operated well. ASUR took measurements on every flight of the campaign.

24 September 2002

The FALCON leaves the Seychelles two days late due to an engine problem. Tentative return to Oberpfaffenhofen is now 28 September 2002.

24 September 2002

A flight schedule for the DC-8 mission of the Leonid Multi-instrument Aircraft Campaign in November 2002 is released.

19 September 2002

The FALCON arrives on the Seychelles, completing the first half of the south leg for the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign. All instruments operated well. ASUR was able to take measurements on every flight and the first ASUR measurements in the tropics were obtained.

15 September 2002

The FALCON heads for Palma de Mallorca.

11 September 2002

A new flight plan is released for the south leg of the first section of the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign. Take off for the FALCON is scheduled for 15 September 2002. Flight route: Oberpfaffenhofen (Germany), Palma de Mallorca (Spain), Yaounde (Cameroon), Nairobi (Kenya), Mahe (Seychelles) and back. Tentative return to Oberpfaffenhofen 26 September 2002.

7 September 2002

The FALCON aircraft with the SCIAMACHY validation payload returns early due to a shutdown of ENVISAT scheduled for 8 September 2002. All instruments worked well on the north leg of the campaign. Co-located measurements with SCIAMACHY were taken on all flights.

3 September 2002

Start of the SCIAMACHY Validation campaign, first section, north leg (6 flights). Flight route: Oberpfaffenhofen (Germany) - Kiruna (Sweden), local flight Kiruna, Kiruna - Keflavik (Iceland), Keflavik - Kangerlussuaq/Sondre Stromfjord (Greenland), Kangerlussuaq/Sondre Stromfjord - Keflavik, Keflavik - Oberpfaffenhofen. Tentative return 9 September 2002.
