EMeRGe workshop in Republic of Korea

Prof. Burrows joined an EMeRGe workshop in the Republic of Korea. The team reported on airborne (King Air) and ground based measurements in South Korea and their satellite data products made for EMeRGe.






HALO comes back home after the EMeRGe transfer flight

HALO landed safely in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany, at 16:45 local time after three days transfer flight from East Asia to Europe.

The EMeRGe HALO measurement campaign in Asia is brought successfully to a close and EMeRGe goes on into the next phase, an exciting time of analysing and interpreting data!


EMeRGe Flight F#14 to Thailand

HALO left Taiwan. On the first leg of the ferry flight back to Germany HALO landed on the airport U-Tapao in Thailand.


PFC release from Nanjing

PFC tracer was relesed from Nanjing University, China, today by Professor Tijan Wang and Professor Min Xie and their research team: Da Gao, Chenchao Zhan and Junyu Ren. The tracer shall be catched during tomorrows HALO flight.





EMeRGe Flight F#13

On the 4. April 2018 HALO was flying to Japan. As a result of the Typhoon in the Pacific, in the lower troposphere, Pacific air has been blown into the target regions of HALO EMeRGe. The major objectives the mission today have been the following:

i) The systematic study of the long range transport in the southern end of the prevailing flow in the upper tropospheric altitudes.

ii) the outflow from Japan was targeted at low levels. The separation of the Yangtze and local sources being a goal of the flight.

iii) the study of pollution plumes in the Taiwan straights and Taiwan.

After returning to Taiwanese air space, HALO flew as series of low altitude tracks on the western part of Taiwan and in the Taiwan straights. This turned out to be very dirty air.

As a result of the Typhoon in the Pacific Pacific, in the lower troposphere, air has been blown into the target regions of HALO EMeRGe. Consequently the major objectives this mission today have been the following:

i) The systematic study of the long range transport in the southern end of the prevailing flow in the upper altitudes. This resulted in HALO going up to 39 000 ft and then doing stepped descent.

ii) the study of pollution plumes around Taiwan. After returning to the south of Taiwan, HALO flew as series of low altitude tracks on the western part of Taiwan.
