TEAM-2 Workshop announcement
Posted on 29 Sep 2017 by Wilke
The TEAM-2 (Transport and transformation of pollutants from European and Asian Major population centres - part 2) topical workshop will be organised in Bremen for the coordination of scientific activities during the second field phase of EMeRGe in Asia. An additional intention of the workshop is the presentation and discussion of preliminary data and lessons learnt in the Europe campaign.

TEAM-2 will take place in Bremen on 14th - 16th November 2017. Read more about the TEAM-2 workshop.

End of the EMeRGe campaign in Europe: dismounting instruments and back home
Posted on 31 Jul 2017 by Lola
From today and up to the 04.08.2017 the EMeRGe instruments on board HALO will be dismounted and the EMeRGe team will go back home.

It is the end of the first experimental phase of EMeRGe but we will be soon back for the campaign in Asia in March 2018!

Seventh and last EMeRGe mission flight in Europe (F#9)
Posted on 28 Jul 2017 by Lola
The flight on the 28.07.2017 has been the last flight of the EMeRGe campaign in Europe.
In contrast with the unfavourable weather over Central and Northern Europe, all western Mediterranean is influenced by high pressure conditions and fair weather dominates. The mixing of the outflows from Barcelona and Madrid at the NE Spanish coast with potential origin in the forest fires in Portugal and the city plume of Marseille were the main focus of this flight.

The HALO instrumentation probed different air masses, structured polluted layers and a lot more.
A great flight end (flight) of the campaign!

EMeRGe Networking Workshop: EMeRGe in Europe: lessons learnt briefing
Posted on 27 Jul 2017 by Lola
The part of the EMeRGe Community in Oberpfaffenhoffen together with DLR-FX enjoyed very much the discussion and grill event on the 27.07.2017 at the DLR restaurant Garden.

The weather was not great but we had interesting chats and the rain was patiently waiting till we finished.
Thank you for coming!

Sixth EMeRGe mission flight in Europe (F#8)
Posted on 26 Jul 2017 by Lola
The flight on the 26.07.2017 was a kind of 8 hours game with HALO running in front of the clouds distributed almost everywhere in Northern Europe. But EMeRGe managed to catch the outflows of London and the Ruhr area!

The HALO flight was again combined with PFC tracer experiments in London and Wuppertal. The tracers were released on time and we thank again all the colleagues involved for their efforts.

Even within EMeRGe there is sometimes nothing like the rain!

Daniel Sauer managed to capture the complete rainbow.

Fifth EMeRGe mission flight in Europe (F#7)
Posted on 24 Jul 2017 by Lola
While the persistence of the cut-off low prevented suitable HALO measurements over Central and North Europe, on the 24.07.2017 EMeRGe focused on the outflow from Western Europe to the Western Mediterranean, as the predicted strong NW winds East of the Pyrenees and West of the Alps were favourable for probing the pollution plumes from Marseille and Barcelona.

The initial flight plan had to be scaled down around two hours after the waiting loop due to the stormy weather close to Milan and it was quite cloudy over France. But on the whole the instrumentation aboard HALO gathered again interesting data for EMeRGe at Po Valley, the coast of Barcelona and Marseille.
