Stefan Noël

Group at IUP:

SCIAMACHY Operations Support Team, WG Burrows

Current Position:

Senior scientist

Research Interest:

Instrument calibration and monitoring Greenhouse gas (H2O, CH4, CO2) retrieval

Research Career:

Stefan Noël studied physics at the University of Bonn, Germany, where he received a PhD in 1992. Since 1996 he has been working at the Institute of Environmental Physics/Remote Sensing at the University of Bremen, where he is active in the GOME and SCIAMACHY satellite projects, especially in the areas calibration and monitoring. He is a member of the SCIAMACHY Operations Support Team (SOST) and was involved in the preparation and planning of the SCIAMACHY mission. He is (co-)chair of the SCIAMACHY Calibration Subgroup and co-worker in the SCIAMACHY Quality Working Group. Beside these activities, he has developed an independent method to retrieve total water vapour column densities from GOME, SCIAMACHY and GOME-2 measurements (AMC-DOAS) and a method to retrieve trace gas concentrations from SCIAMACHY solar occultation measurements (Onion Peeling DOAS - ONPD).
