ACCENT

  • ACCENT / Satellite Observations AT2 The ACCENT project is a Network of Excellence funded by EC, FP6. ACCENT's goals are to promote a common European strategy for research on atmospheric composition change, to develop and maintain durable means of communication and collaboration within the European scientific community, to facilitate this research and to optimise two-way interaction with policy-makers and the general public.
  • The Satellite Observations AT2 task (http://www.accent-network.org/portal/integration-tasks/satellite-observations-at2) evolved from the EUROTRAC-2 TROPOSAT project, and deals with different aspects of tropospheric measurements from satellites: algorithm development and data production, data assimilation and modelling, and last but not least validation. At the IUP Bremen, several projects are part of the ACCENT / AT2 network which focus on improvements of data retrieval and the interpretation of long-term satellite data sets:
  • Improving tropospheric trace gas retrievals by combined UV-VIS solar backscatter and thermal IR sounding of the atmosphere (PI: Heinrich Bovensmann)
  • Retrieval of vertical columns of carbon monoxide and long-lived greenhouse gases (methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide) from SCIAMACHY/ENVISAT satellite data (PI: Michael Buchwitz)
  • Retrieval of vertical columns of water vapour from SCIAMACHY/ENVISAT satellite data (PI: Stefan Noel).
  • Monitoring Changes in Tropospheric Constitution from Space (PI: Andreas Richter)
